๐Ÿ‘Since 2020, Apple’s Wallet app has let iPhone and Apple Watch users lock, unlock, and start certain cars using a digital car key feature. This handy tool uses NFC technology to make your device act like a car key. You just hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the car’s NFC reader to use it.

Some cars even let you share the digital key with others, like family or friends, for easy access. Right now, brands like Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Lotus, Polestar, and RAM support this feature. For example, you can use it with 2023 and newer Hyundai Palisade or 2024 and newer Volvo EX90.

Other brands, like BYD and Lynk & Co, are starting to add support, but it depends on the country. At WWDC 2025, Apple announced that 13 more car brands will soon offer this feature, including Acura, Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Porsche, Rivian, Smart, Lucid Motors, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah. Rivian’s second-generation R1S and R1T will be among them.

Apple hasn’t shared exact dates for when these brands will roll out support. Apple’s website lists vehicles that work with car keys, but it’s not fully up to date. If you know of other models, let us know! This feature makes life easier by replacing physical keys with your iPhone or Apple Watch, but it’s only available on newer car models with NFC support.
