🍎Apple’s latest film, F1: The Movie, has become its top-earning theatrical release, pulling in over $293 million worldwide in just ten days, according to Variety. The movie, which hit theaters with a bang, made $146 million during its opening weekend, outshining Apple’s earlier films like Napoleon ($221 million) and Killers of the Flower Moon ($158 million).

Other Apple movies, such as Fly Me to the Moon ($42 million) and Argylle ($96 million), didn’t perform as well. IMAX screenings have been a big driver, bringing in $60 million, about 20% of the total ticket sales. Outside the U.S. and Canada, where the film earned $109.5 million, top markets include China ($22 million), the UK ($17.3 million), Mexico ($12.3 million), France ($11.5 million), and Australia ($9.8 million).

The movie’s production cost over $250 million, with marketing adding another $100 million. Even with its strong box office, it hasn’t yet covered its full budget due to the split of ticket sales between studios and theaters.

Studios typically keep about 50% of domestic revenue and less internationally. Still, F1 is set to stream on Apple TV+ later in 2025, which could boost its success by attracting new subscribers. This gamble on a high-stakes racing film is proving to be a smart move for Apple’s growing entertainment efforts.
