Which model pollutes the most?
German researchers have found a direct correlation between the efficiency of AI and its ecological footprint. An analysis of 14 open language models (commercial ChatGPT systems were not studied) showed that the more accurate the AI, the more energy and CO₂ it consumes. Special “dirty” models can be used using step-by-step task analysis. The leader in emissions is the highly accurate DeepSeek, although Cogito 70B demonstrated results - slightly better results with lower energy consumption. Experts confirm: the growth of AI power inevitably reduces its appetite for electricity. PhD student Maximilian Downer creates that compact models are sufficient for many tasks. The study also suggests the mass implementation of AI - even background operations, such as short answers in search engines, collectively harm the environment. In this chapter of OpenAI, Sam Altman predicts that in the future, AI will consume a corresponding share of the world's energy.
