 China overtakes US in rankings

China has become a global leader in scientific research, overtaking the United States in the 2024 Nature Index ranking. An analysis of 145 prestigious journals showed that Chinese scientists scored 32,121 points (+17.4%), while the United States received only 22,082 (-10.1%). There are eight Chinese universities in the world's top 10, and 13 in the top 20. China's positions are especially strong in chemistry, physics, and ecology, although Western countries retain their leadership in biomedicine and corporate research. Experts attribute the Chinese breakthrough to the growing number of researchers and a reduction in science funding in the United States, which could cause a "brain drain" to Asia. South Korea, actively cooperating with China, increased its share by 11%.
